Notes from initial meeting

Notes from the initial Highlands Women's Meeting- 9/27/08


Discussion of structure, vision, duties, calendar, brainstorming, and action plan.


Comments at beginning of meeting:

No natural welcoming conduit (for men or women)
Few outlets for gifts
More reactive than proactive
Need programs for spurring one another on to love and good cheer
Ned a voice for single women
Need an advocate for women
Need better communication for proactive planning
Currently gifts of women are characterized by service only


Things already in works:

Prayer canopy for church (first mtg was 9/28/08)
Sarah and Maryanne beginning Wed. night prayer (for work of church, incl. AWANA)
Sarah starting Bible study on Mon. nights

Suggestions for near future:

Christmas cards to missionaries
Bi-annual retreats
Bekah T. updating contact info for Highlands women-Communication Office/Committee
Identifying "go to" people for events/planning


Consensus of agreement of needs:

Women need to be equipped
Women working with Deaconate
Women working consistently/cooperatively with church leadership and vision
Connect to WIC-Lyn, Lisa and Shanna (not sure of others) will work together to look at skeletal structure of WIC and determine the structure of Highlands program for women


Urgent Needs

1) contact WIC

2) calendar of events coordination


Women representative in on Board Meetings
Women representative in interviews
Women participate in vision discussions
Being head of particular teams/ministries
Development of a discipleship program
Oversee retreats
Budget allocation for ministry needs of women
Help to foster spiritual. social, and service needs
Hospitality-meet and foster relationships with new sisters


Potential Activities:

Deaconal-service to church/members, visiting, meals
Shepherding-women & children
Bible Studies
Prayer Groups
Intentional inclusion of younger women-LINKS
Support groups (Alisa)
Service projects
Rotate meeting sites
Leadership with rotating schedule


Beginning 2008 Calendar of Events:

*Walk-n-Talk - quarterly event-begins Oct. 11th-meet Wilder Tower 9am, with your walking shoes on

*Bible study - Sarah J. teaching, begins Monday, Oct 20th

*Sexual Wholeness Support Group - beginning Oct 21st; Alisa B. facilitating. Tues. 7:00-8:30

*Slumber Party for Women - Friday, November 14, 6:30pm-Sat.-Nov. 15, noon Susan G's house

*Prayer Canopy - Oct. 25,25-8pm-8am and Nov. 28-8pm-8am, at Highlands in the Fellowship Hall

*December 6th - Breakfast & Shopping

*January 10th - white elephant party

*February 21 - Manna Party - everyone bring what they would want as the one thing they would eat for the rest of their life
